Dr. Owens is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Jacksonville State University. Owens earned a Doctorate in Political Science and an outside minor in U.S. Constitutional History from The University of Alabama in 2001, where she also earned her Masters Degree in Political Science. She has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Jacksonville State University. Dr. Owens served two terms on the Faculty Senate and is currently a member of the Political Relations Committee at Jacksonville State University. She also serves on the Alabama Women’s Commission and is an Academic Associate for The Atlantic Council. In 2007, Lori was elected as the Chair of the Alabama Higher Education Partnership. She has served on the Cherokee County Commission since 2004.

Dr. Owens is the faculty advisor for pre-law students and the Pre-Law Society, the Political Science Model Arab League Debate Team, and the College Republicans. She also supervises all undergraduate internships.

Dr. Owens’ book, Original Intent and the Struggle for the Supreme Court: The Politics of Judicial Appointments, was published by The Edwin Mellen Press in December 2005. This study examines the judicial philosophy of original intent and how the 1987 Robert Bork hearings impacted the judicial nomination and confirmation process.

Dr. Owens teaches courses in American Government and Foreign Policy with a special emphasis on the federal judiciary, Southern Politics, state and local government, and the Middle East.
